Cyber Career Chat Podcast

Launched on October 26 2020, during Cyber Week 2020, our podcast aims to inform potential talent for the cyber security field, which currently has 17,000 vacancies Australia wide. The overarching message of the podcast is that cyber security is an exciting field, and that opportunities are not limited to working with computer code and combating cyber hackers. The industry is dynamic and requires talent across a range of skillsets.

The target audience is broken down into three categories:

1. Students or school leavers

2. Disadvantaged – NDIS clients, rural and remote residents, etc.

3. ‘Upskillers’ already in the field or a similar field but looking to specialise in cyber-related careers.

Work experience program – “try before you buy” for students and employers

In early 2021, the NSW Node in collaboration with our ecosystem partners, will launch a work experience program aimed at high school students to bridge the gap for students who have completed CaDOP and are working towards the internship opportunities upon completion of their studies.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from our industry partners who would like to take part in this program.

The expectation of this program is to educate students and parents alike about the possibilities of a career in the Cyber and Digital sector and provides employers with a “try before you buy” model to test talent over a 3-5 day period of work experience to establish the suitability of that student to undertake an internship at the organisation.

The program, among other things, enables organisations to deal directly with the tertiary sector and TAFE NSW, saving the organisation recruitment fees and other costs associated with attracting and recruiting new talent.
