AustCyber’s year ahead by Michelle Price

Michelle Price

Welcome to 2019.

This year is shaping up to be AustCyber’s biggest since opening our doors just over two years ago.

In the lead up to celebrating our second birthday on 2 January 2019, we took the time over the Christmas break to reflect on the journey we have taken as a sector over the last two years.

We’ve looked at the growth of the cyber security ecosystem, its position right now and what needs to be put in place to take advantage of the foundations established across our network.

For AustCyber, this is the year that we capitalise on the growth that we’ve achieved so far.

AustCyber is making a monumental shift in our operations and we’re now focusing on maturing and scaling the services that we provide to the ecosystem to grow and succeed even more.

One of AustCyber’s main focuses is to make sure every sector across the economy understands the opportunity there is for significant growth if cyber resilience is built in at ground level.

In addition to #AllTheThings that we've been implementing over the past couple of years, we’ll be focusing on our four flagship programmes. Some of them you know and love; some of them you've not heard very much about before.

Our ‘ideation to export infrastructure’ program is going to be a big focus of this year and we can't wait to unveil what that's going to look like and how you can get involved.

But coming up in the first quarter of this year we have two significant events in our calendar.

Later this month AustCyber, in conjunction with Austrade and other partners, will be leading its third delegation of Australian Cyber Security companies on a trade mission to the East and West coasts of the USA.

Enormous opportunities abound with the U.S trade mission, and as we continue to demonstrate that Australia is great destination to do business, we look forward to building on the outcomes year-on-year.

Next up is the CyberTaipan National Finals which will be held in Canberra on March 16. CyberTaipan has become a big feature of high schools around the country. I can't wait to see Australia’s next generation of cyber talent converging on the nation's capital to fight it out for the national prize.

And that's just a teaser for what we've got coming over the next 12 months. It really is #GameOn and I can't wait to share this adventure with you.
